Last evening I witnessed an accident near my home while returning from work at around 6p.m.
When I reached the spot a man was lying in the middle of the road and he was bleeding profusely. There was another man on the other side shouting to stop the tractor. The man in the tractor had hit the man ( laying on the road) and he drove away. I was in a bit of a shock at that moment as I wasn’t able to understand what was happening. So I parked my scooty aside and tried to understand the scenario, meanwhile I called one of my friends to ask for help. So he called in a hospital to ask them to send the ambulance. While all these I had spent around 15 minutes. The ambulance didn’t come, despite the multiple calls, though it was only 1km away from the spot.
While all these when I was trying to find out the way to how I can help the man, I saw numerous people in cars, bikes, rickshaws passed by. No one cared to stop for a while and look after the matter.
After sometime another man showed up and he seemed to be supportive. He stopped and asked the matter. I briefed him. He called the cops. After 10-15 minutes, the PCR van came and took him with them. The man was dead.
I was in utter shock to see the extent to which humans can be inhuman, with no empathy and insensitiveness. They had forgotten that someday it could be them or any of their family members or acquaintances.
We have grown so much creating robots that we are in denial of our existence.
